The Great Barn
5* luxury holiday venue for entertaining extended family and friends – sleeps 10 guests
This 5* Gold Awarded 16th Century Barn is one of three Grade II listed buildings forming Burrows Farm. The Great Barn is arranged over two directly attached barns and accommodates ten guests within three doubles, two twins, three bathrooms and a separate WC, arranged over two floors. A centrepiece for many will be the large kitchen with its welcoming Aga and “local” talking or dining table.
The large double barn has been carefully restored, taking into account 500 years of history. Guests can trace the ongoing works in an illustrated book available to view on site.
Enter the spectacular main barn and be “wowed” by its open aspect and floor to ceiling oak beams. Enjoy elegant entertaining in the principal dining area, together with comprehensive entertainment facilities including a pool table and a table tennis table.
Every guest comfort has been considered and addressed without compromising the history of the property – remember to bring your slippers and really make yourself at home!
The Great Barn’s listing puts the origins in the 16th Century. The adjacent farmhouse dates from the 17th Century and was rebuilt in 1731, in the time of George II. The Granary between the House and the Barn will date from the same period. In the late 18th Century the Rayner family farmed here and by the late 19th Century the property belonged to the Millbank family.
Our family arrived in 1983 and we have been continuously catching up on the backlog of maintenance work since then. The Great Barn was derelict when we bought it and the pictures from then to now tell the story of the intervening years to lovingly restore this historic property.
