The Great Barn at Burrows is situated in rolling hills in SW Essex, just six miles from Epping. It is in the heart of Countryside and yet around an hour by car from Central London. Entering the postal code “CM5 9QW” will bring you outside the gate.

The local walks are easy and locations such as London, Cambridge, Colchester, Southend, and Luton can be reached in about 60 minutes, subject to traffic. Local shopping and restaurants can be found within 15 minutes (Epping & Chipping Ongar) and shopping centres such as Lakeside (Essex) & Bluewater (Kent) are within 40 minutes.

Trains from Epping to London Liverpool Street (and on to the West End) take approximately 40 minutes with six trains per hour midweek. The Green Man pub is located a 10 minute stroll away from the Great Barn.  Airports by car, subject to traffic conditions: London Stansted 25 minutes, London City 50 minutes, London Luton 55 minutes, London Heathrow 70 minutes and London Gatwick 70 minutes.

The most popular local “Outing” for families (and others!) is the Epping Ongar Steam Railway, normally open at weekends or longer during the summer season. Check the website. A single charge is made and for this you can ride trains and buses all day, so get there early in the day and get your monies worth!
